WORK CUSTOMARILY INCLUDED IN FULL DOUBLE-HUNG WINDOW RESTORATION
- Set up containment area around window for lead-containing paint safety
- Remove upper and lower sash from frame. Put plastic over exterior opening
- Remove excess paint from friction surfaces and inside face of upper sash meeting rail
- Use existing or create pocket covers in jambs to access weights. Check that weights and sashes match. Upgrade weights when necessary. Put pocket covers back in jamb
- Replace old ropes (broken or not) with new rope (cotton outside matches original look, synthetic core ensures estimated 65-year lifetime)
- Clean excess paint off pulley as much as possible and lubricate pulley
- Make necessary repairs to sashes including, but not limited to:
- fix loose corners
- repair missing wood with epoxy/putty
- reinforce corners with dowels if necessary
- replace cracked or missing glazing compound with linseed oil-based glazing compound
- Clean glass
- Re-install sashes in frames. Use new parting beads (Verticle Grain Fir)
- Lubricate sashes & stops and re-install inside stops
- Clean up
