WORK CUSTOMARILY INCLUDED IN FULL DOUBLE-HUNG WINDOW RESTORATION Set up containment area around window for lead-containing paint safety Remove upper and lower sash from frame. Put plastic over exterior opening Remove excess paint from friction surfaces and inside face of upper sash meeting rail Use existing or create pocket covers in jambs to access weights. Check that weights and sashes match. Upgrade weights when necessary. Put pocket covers back in jamb Replace old ropes (broken or not) with new rope (cotton outside matches original look, synthetic core ensures estimated 65-year lifetime) Clean excess paint off pulley as much as possible and lubricate pulley Make necessary repairs to sashes including, but not limited to: fix loose corners repair missing wood with epoxy/putty reinforce corners with dowels if necessary replace cracked or missing glazing compound with linseed oil-based glazing compound Clean glass Re-install sashes in frames. Use new parting beads (Verticle Grain Fir) Lubricate sashes & stops and re-install inside stops Clean up   .
